2013 Dana Point Grand Prix
This year he got it right and despite a bad start where he got chopped immediately after the whistle, he rallied and realed in the leaders.
I'm proud to say there were 62 kids in his group and he finished 3rd! He almost had second place but just at the end a kid crept up on him with deep dish carbon wheels and clipless pedals! Next year I'll have him a bit more trained up and on an even better bike! I can't wait! Way to go Luke!
Me, well, lets just say this shot of me on the rollers before the start was my training for the week. Good think I have a LOT of miles in my legs. I rode in the 35+ 1,2,3 event and I gotta say it was FAST! I heard we averaged 34 mph and had the fastest lap of the day!
Not sure where I finished yet. I may have crept into the top 20 but if I did it would been in the 19th or 20th spot! I was happy with my ride really, I avoided some crashes, never felt like I was in jepoardy of being shelled and got a big hug from Luke when it was all over! He was so excited for me! I think he was more excited with my finish than his own!
My back wheel had issues just before the start, so instead of the Lightweight rear I used a Mavic Cosmic. Funny, that wheel retails for $650….seemed almost as fast as the Lightweight!
Everyone in the peloton today seems to be either super stealth like the guy in the all back here, or totally the opposite in bright fluoresents! My new kit from my friend Luis at Native Apparel bridges he gap between the two….a little bright green, bright yellow….and plenty of black!
Hats off to local rider Bobby Brown! He did TWO (2) races! What a stud! Looks good too, rocking that Hincapie Shop Kit doesn't he?!
Big props too to Jeff Nicholas for taking such great photos! All bike racers like to check themselves out, you know....check their form, position on the bike, how lean they look....ha! Riders are really vein when it comes to that stuff! Anyway, Jeff took more photos than I have room to show here, and they are all great! Stop by the shop sometime and you'll see the shots on the shop's screensavers!

May Clearance Sale
Here we have 3 really nice bikes left over from 2012. Over the course of the year, I sold other versions of these bikes (different sizes or colors) but somehow these three gems were passed over and need to find new homes! I'm going to start by posting them up here, on the LBC Blog. Its not as far reaching as the LBC Facebook page, and that should be a good thing because the last time I post up killer deals like these there, well, lets just say we weren't prepared for all the phone calls, e-mails and other inquiries.
I am also offering two Ibis Hakkalugi complete Ultegra bikes, 55cm & 57cm. I know, I know….its not cross season! Well, that's why I'm droping the price and clearing them out. New for 2012, the popular Hakkalugi was improved by adding a strengthened rear-end that could handle a disc-brake. Complimented with an ENVE disc-specific fork, Ibis created one of the hottest bikes on the International 'Cross circuit. I have SLASHED $700 off each of my remaining two bikes on the floor.
Like the Bianchi above, its my plan to get the Ibis bikes onto the LBC E-Bay store soon, so if you want to get one of these before the prices gets driven up, give the shop a call or if you are local, come on in and mention this ad and we'll offer you a free espresso!

Knolly Bikes at Laguna Cyclery
What I saw and what I learned about Knolly bikes was really cool….not a lot of marketing hype behind Knolly, just a romantic story about a guy (a very smart guy) who wanted to build a bike that encompassed everything he felt was missing from what he'd ridden in the past. This is exactly the kind of evolution of a bike company we love....
What started out as just a means to build a few frames for he and his buddies has grown into a successful company that created and owns their own proprietary (yet simple) suspension design that gets great reviews from everyone who has ridden a Knolly. Its called the Four By 4 Linkage, and while its based on the linkage system used by F1 suspension systems, its been rapidly accepted as one of the smoothest and most effective suspension systems in both linear (coil shock & longer-travel) and progressive spring shocks (high-voloume air) in the bike market.
We should be seeeing the Chilcotin arrive in the store in Mid-May. It will be offered in two sizes (medium and large) as demo bikes for use on the local trails. These are great riding bikes that are perfectly suited to our aggressive terrain in and around Laguna Beach. I'll post up an announcement when they arrive.
